    About this recipe: Chutti, a vegetarian dish, owes its unique taste to the juicy sajna immersed in a spice and mustard filled gravy. It tastes great with plain steamy rice.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 5 

    • 2 tablespoons soybean oil
    • 2 tablespoons onion slices
    • 1 tablespoon mustard paste
    • 1 teaspoon chilli paste
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
    • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
    • 1 teaspoon onion paste
    • Salt as needed
    • 1/2 kg shajna/drumsticks, cut into finger length slices
    • 2 cups potato slices
    • Water as needed

    Directions

    1. Heat a frying pan with oil. Add the onions, fry lightly and add the mustard paste, chilli paste, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garlic and onion pastes and salt.
    2. Stir and cook until the water released dries up a bit to form thick gravy. Add the shajna and potatoes. Add 1 cup of water and allow the vegetables to boil.
    3. When the water dries up to form thick gravy, and the vegetables have boiled completely, turn down the heat. Simmer for 3 more minutes and serve.
