Its a perfect side dish for kerala's own PUTTU aka steamed rice cake. its hot, spicy, dry and extremely flavored. It takes the usual Puttu to a different level..

    1 person made this

    • black chick pea, well cooked : 2 cups
    • onions, minced : 2 medium sized
    • dried chillies, crushed : 6 (or as per your taste)
    • coriander, crushed : 2 tablespoon
    • curry leaves : 6 strands (its the secret of the dish's unique taste)
    • Garam masala/chick pea masala : 1 teaspoon
    • mustard or cumin seed : 1/2 teaspoon
    • turmeric powder : 1 pinch
    • salt : to taste
    • oil (i prefer coconut oil) : 4 tablespoon

    1. drain chick pea and keep aside around 2 table spoons of stolk water
    2. heat oil and add mustard/cumin seed
    3. when it starts to splutter add minced onion and half of the curry leaves
    4. saute it in low flame for 2 minutes
    5. in low flame add turmeric powder, salt, crushed chilly and crushed coriander
    6. add drained chick pea and mix well
    7. add the water if the mix is too dry, accordingly
    8. add the remaining curry leaves and garam masala powder
    9. mix well and remove from the flame
    10. served best with Puttu, chapathi and dosa

this dish can be also made using white chick peas too. but since i like black one's flavor the best i preferred it.
