About this recipe: Huruli saaru (horse gram) sambar is very good for strengthening legs, especially for kids and athletes. The sambar made with this is so tasty and need to be taken with combination of huruli usli and rice. Try and let me know if you were able to run few kms more after having this :-)

Serves: 4 

  • 1/2 cup horse gram
  • 1/4 cup green gram
  • 1/4 cup whole black bengal gram or whole black channa dal
  • 2 tbls spns corriander seeds
  • 1 tps cumin seeds
  • 1tps methi or fenugreek seeds
  • 1 pinch hing or asefotida
  • 1 string curry leaves
  • 1 lemon sized tamrind to be soaked in water
  • 2 spoons salt to taste
  • 6 nums Red dry chillies
  • 1/4 cup coconut
  • 1/2 lemon sliced

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

  1. soak only black channa dal over night. Pressure cook with 10-12 whistle all the dals with salt. wait for cooling.
  2. dry fry cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, red chillies, corriander seeds
  3. add the above fried items , hing, and coconut into blender and grind into smooth paste
  4. to the cooled dals, add the paste, tamrind pulp, salt, curry leaves and allow to boil for 10 mins
  5. serve hot with a slice of lemon and hot plain rice ... yummy for sure.
