    About this recipe: Keema of choice cooked with mushrooms, mirchi and flavoured with Brit classic 'marmite'. Serve with pasta or mashed potato.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 2 small onions - diced
    • 450g keema
    • 4 tsp of marmite
    • 250g mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 2 buillion cubes
    • 2 tablespoons of gravy granules
    • 250ml water, or as needed

    Directions
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:25min  ›  Ready in:40min 

    1. Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions, and fry until soft.
    2. Stir in the keema; cook until evenly browned.
    3. Push all of the beef and onion out to the sides, leaving a pool of butter in the centre. Stir the marmite into the butter, and mix until well blended. Mix with mince and onions.
    4. Stir in the paprika, and cubes. The mixture will start to become sticky and bind together. Add the water and gravy mix. It will be sticky at first. Just stir and bring to a simmer, and it is ready to serve.

    This was delicious! I used low sodium beef stock instead of Oxo cubes, and cornstarch instead of gravy mix to cut down on the salt. Drained the beef and onion, and then used olive oil instead of butter to improve the fat content. I also added chopped green and red peppers.  -  03 Mar 2011  (Review from Allrecipes UK | Ireland)

    This recipe looks a nightmare for any one with raised blood pressure - all of that SALT in the marmite, gravy mix and stock cube!! if you haven't got high b/p before you eat it....sorry to be a grump but there is NO WAY I would cook this.     This is full of salt and also yeast. Yeast is a major allergen that many of us do not realise is causing us oral thrush, l thrush, athletes foot etc etc .Plus it contributes to many auto-immune disorders such as arthritis, MS, lupus and other illnesses such as M.E. etc. Eat with caution.
