    About this recipe: A curry prepared with ash gourd(petha), toor dal and coconut.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 3/4 cup Toor dal
    • 1/2 cup Grated coconut
    • 3/4 tablespoon Cumin seed
    • 1/4 kg Ash gourd
    • 2 cups water
    • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • salt to taste
    • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
    • 1 teaspoon mustard seed
    • 4 green chili, split lengthwise
    • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
    • 7-8 curry leaves

    1. Cook Toor dal ina pressure cooker. Grind coconut and cumin in a mixer.
    2. Cut ash gourd into small pieces of about 2 inches. Boil water and add ash gourd, turmeric and salt and let cook. When almost done, add toor dal and ground coconut-cumin mixture. Stir well and let ithe mixture boil. Turn off the heat.
    3. Heat oil in a frying pan and add mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Now add green chili, onion and curry leaves. Roast well and pour it onto the prepared curry.
