Rajasthani lauki chaney ki dal

    This is my grandma's recipe. She likes lauki (bottle gourd) a lot and this is another way to cook it - Rajasthani style!

    Serves: 2 

    • 1/2 cup chana dal
    • 1 small lauki (cut into small pieces)
    • 1 tablespoon oil
    • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
    • 1 medium onion (chopped)
    • 1 tablespoon garlic (minced)
    • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon tumeric
    • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
    • 4 teaspoons dhaniya powder
    • salt to taste

    1. Soak chana dal in hot water for 10 minutes and boil it.
    2. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and when they turn brown, add onion and garlic. Cook it till it turns light pink.
    3. Add lauki, chana dal and all the dry masala in it. Cook for 2 minutes, add 1/2 cup of water and let it cook till lauki is soft and tender. Serve hot with chapatis.
