About this recipe: This curry stands out as onions are seldom used as the main ingredient in any curry. The roasted taste of onion with the sourness of tamarid gives this curry its unique flavour.

Serves: 2 

  • 2 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 2 cups chopped small red onion/pearl onion
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon fine cut green chilies
  • 1 tablespoon corriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • salt to taste
  • 6-7 curry leaves

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min 

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan. Add mustard and let splutter. Now add onion and green chilies and roast well until onion is deep golden brown.
  2. Now add coriander powder, red chili powder and turmeric powder. Sauté a few strokes and add water, tamarind paste and salt.
  3. Cook until done and sprinkle curry leaves.
