I used edible colours for this raita to celebrate the day at home with friends. Great with a simple dish of chawal. Happy Aug 15!

Beets boiled under tender, then tossed with a lovely garlic vinaigrette and served on a bed of lettuce or mixed salad leaves. A simple, elegant, flavourful salad for your next party.

A quick and easy blend of spinach, olive oil, ripe tomatoes and oranges, tossed with herbs of choice. Great with noodles, fish, chicken or whenever you want to eat healthy. I enjoy it most when my little grandson helps me make it.

Here's a delicious dessert for the whole family. I've used sugar substitutes for diabetics. You can adjust the sugar according to taste.

This is a high fibre chapati from north Karnataka. Great with dal, raita, curries or just on its own. Jowar is easily available all over the country.

According to Ayurveda, lauki (bottle gourd) is very good for the body, it can reverse the effects of aging and it's specially very good for liver. It's low cal and so, it also helps to reduce obesity. Enjoy this recipe!

A can of fruit can be transformed into a special fruit salad with very little effort. Here, lychees are enhanced with ginger and the zest and juice of fresh lime for a tropical flavour, then tossed with crisp apple, oranges and black grapes from the fruit bowl.

This is an easy dal to make on a vegetarian night. It tastes good with rice and is my favourite Indian food! I look forward to my Tuesdays dal chawaal nights!

Pass the coke and serve this healthy, fruity water at your next brunch. It looks great and tastes even better! If you don't have oranges, you can use lemons or limes instead.

This is my favourite family recipe! My kids don't eat channa daal so I cheat and mush up the entire contents in a mxie or with a hand blender so they don't know the difference! I make a whole pressure cooker of it and take it to work as a soup. It tastes good with either rice or roti as well.

Colourful and packed with flavours, this thick, flat omelette, called a tortilla in Spanish, tastes good served at any temperature. The classic recipe contains only potatoes, onions and eggs, but this version has extra vegetables and ham added. Serve with a leafy green salad.

Use any soft fruit in season for this slightly tangy medley of flavours, a perfect follow-on to a spicy main course.
